December Note to Alumni and Friends

Dear Alumni and Friends,

In the first email I sent on the job, I shared that accepting the offer to join the School as the next John A. Griffin Dean was an easy “yes” for so many reasons. Even at that time, I knew that the School’s devoted community of alumni and friends was at the top of the list.

In many ways, I can hardly believe that I only joined the Commerce community this past July. While time has manifested in unusual ways for us all this year, the highlight of these past six months at McIntire has been marked by the relationships I have developed with many of you and our faculty, staff, and students.

McIntire is thriving, because of the people who make up this special community. Together, we have pushed ourselves to ensure our mission—and we are stronger as a result of the discoveries we made and the knowledge we gained along the way.

  • Our dedicated faculty have advanced the quality of their instruction and curriculum innovation, ensuring our students continue to receive the best Commerce education, regardless of whether they are learning in person or remotely.
  • Our staff are committed to our student experience, doing all they can to build community, whether it be through meaningful forums that explore diversity, equity, and inclusion or launching “Pets at McIntire” in the weekly student newsletter.
  • We hope that you have found continued value in engagement opportunities for our alumni community, from the Centennial Speaker Series with President and CEO of Hilton Chris Nassetta ’84, to virtual panel discussions like “Investing for Impact: Doing Well by Doing Good.”

As we close out 2020, I encourage you to reflect on your own personal and professional accomplishments from this year. I ask our faculty, staff, and students to do the same, so that in the new year we are energized to continue moving forward—in pursuit of promoting and effecting meaningful change as leaders in commerce.

Thank you for your continued investment in the School. I wish you and your families a very restful—and healthy—holiday season, and a happy New Year.
